The name joins yangsheng (養生), the classical Chinese art of nourishing life, and cha dao (茶道), the way of tea. It is rooted in Daoist Yangsheng philosophy, the classical Chinese tradition of nourishing life and the living tea tradition. It is a method, not a movement.

Within the method, tea is approached through constitution, climate and season.

In Yangsheng Cha Dao, tea means one plant: Camellia sinensis. Anything brewed from flower, root, bark, seed or another plant is an infusion, not tea.
